Melnik and Rupite – Bulgaria

We went in Melnik last year. This town is the smallest in Bulgaria, this is the place where you can drink one of the best wine in Bulgaria.

Melnik (Bulgarian: Мелник, Greek: Μελένικο, Melenikois a town in Blagoevgrad Province, southwesternBulgaria, in the southwestern Pirin Mountains, about 440 m above sea level. The town is an architectural reserve and 96 of its buildings are cultural monuments. With a population of 385, it is the smallest town in Bulgaria, retaining its city status today for historical reasons.

Vihren peak

This winter we went in Pirin, one of the mountain in Bulgaria. The higher peak is Vihren I copy some info from wikipedia:

Vihren (Bulgarian: Вихрен) is the highest peak of Bulgaria’s Pirin Mountains. Reaching 2,914 metres (9,560 ft), it is Bulgaria’s second and the Balkans’ third highest, after Musala and Mount Olympus. The peak is located in Pirin’s northern parts. The easiest route is from the Vihren chalet (2,000 m), reaching the summit from the south. Other routes include those from Banderitsa chalet (1,800 m) or across the ridge Koncheto from the north. A number of Pirin’s lakes are located around the peak.
